This week's verse svapna nidra janan alambanam va regards svapna (dreaming) and nidra (sleep) as objects of meditation and wisdom:
In its simplest form, the verse reads: And/or by witnessing the process of dreams and sleep, knowledge.
From Pandit Tigunait: Or by meditating on the knowledge gained from dreams and [dreamless] sleep, one acquires stability of mind.
From Rohit Mehta: This [settling and steadying the mind] requires an inquiry into the functioning of the subconscious and unconscious layers of the mind.
In keeping with this, we'll be exploring preparations for sleep, and yoga nidra (conscious deep dreamless sleep0, which not only relaxes and nourishes the nervous system, but also allows habit patterns from the un and subconscious to be released and reintegrated.
